Trash Part 1 Summary

This is the trash part 1 summary

Part 1 Summary:

Trash is a book written by Andy Mulligan It is a story about 3 boys named Raphael, Gardo and Rat.  The story is set in dumpsite. The story begins when Raphael finds a bag while he working at the dumpsite. Inside the bag, a wallet which included 1100 pesos in it, a locker key and a map, a few old papers, photos and an ID card which was owned by Jose Angelico, 33 years old man, who was employed as a houseboy. After Raphael found it, he shared 1100 pesos with his friend, Gardo. After that, police started to find the bag. Raphael lied that he didn’t find it, but Auntie knew that Raphael found it. But she didn’t said to the police. Moreover, Raphael and Gardo brought Rat to a station where Rat was working, finding a locker. On the locker key , the number was 101. And they finally found the locker, number 101. After they opened it, they found a letter and a code. There was writing in a thick pen: ‘If found, please deliver.’ Then the address: Gabriel Olondriz was the name. Underneath that, a prisoner fact was written. But mysteries are: what was written in the letter? What does the code mean? Why Gabriel is prisoner?

One of the themes in Trash is Police Corruption and violence.  An example of this is when Raphael says “when the police get mean, you don’t want to be around” (page 29).  This means that the police can be violent if they become angry.  Another example is “I looked to not to be scared” (page 13). This means that the police make others scared

The second theme of the book is the dangers of poverty.  An example of this is when Gardo “what if we were being watched? I couldn’t see how they could watch us with us not seeing them.” (page.36) this means that police are watching others, making others scared. said “We jumped early because you don’t ever want to be seen getting off the train.  If guards or even porters see you, you can get a real thrashing” (page 39).  By this he means that the boys are in danger of being beaten up by the guards if they are caught as people who work on the dumpsite are not welcome on the trains.
